Active cases of coronavirus in the Eastern Region are Thirty-One (31) out of 117 confirmed cases.
The number of recoveries and discharged as of May 21, 2020 stands at 86 representing 75% of the total case count.
The New Juaben South Municipality (Koforidua, Eastern Regional Capital) recorded its first two (2) confirmed cases on Thursday.
It is not clear the specific communities these cases came from. Contact tracing is currently underway.
Meanwhile, Birim North District also recorded its first confirmed case same day.
The new cases bring to 11 the number of districts that have recorded COVID-19 in the Region.
Lower Manya Krobo has recorded 70 cases, Asuogyaman (12), Denkyembuor (12), Akuapem North (8), Fanteakwa North (6), and Birim Central (2), Kwahu West (2), Suhum (1) and West Akim (1).
The Regional Health Directorate has clarified that, one of the cases in Kwahu West was recorded in Kumasi hence the case count in Kwahu West is still 2.
Two more health workers have tested positive increasing the number of health workers tested positive to 15 out of which one is in critical condition hence referred to the University of Ghana Medical Hospital in Accra.
The Ghana Health Service announced Friday, May 22, 2020 that 220 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Ghana pushing the country’s case count to 6,486 from 6,269 as of the last update by the Ghana Health Service on Wednesday.
The number of recoveries has also jumped to 1,951 from 1,898 while the death toll remains at 31.
The 11 new cases recorded in the Eastern Region since May 20, 2020 has not been added to the national tally.
