Former Hearts of Oak and 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Mohammed Polo has added his voice to the growing speculation regarding Thomas Partey’s future at Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
Partey has been linked with a move away from the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, with a series of clubs interested in paying his €50 million buy-out clause.
The high flying midfielder is believed to be Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta number one target as he prioritizes signing a new defensive midfielder ahead of 2020/21 season.
He has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Atletico, scored three goals and provided one assist in the campaign.
His contract with the La Liga side is set to expire in 2023, however, the club is keen on extending Partey’s contract until 2025 which comes with a larger release clause than the current one.
The Ghana international came through the club’s academy after moving to Spain at the age of 18.
Manchester United and Chelsea are among the clubs looking to bring him to England due to his scintillating performance.
However, Polo who had a fruitful career before calling it a quit in an interview with Sylvester Ntim ‘Koke’ of Bryt FM mentioned that the midfielder should weigh up his options before making a wise decision on whether he will stay at his current club or not.
“I want Partey to weigh himself because he has the platform. He is the main architect and knows his strength. So if he thinks a move to Arsenal will help him so be it”
“It is difficult playing for some clubs. The expectations at some clubs is very huge. He should consider and join a club with less pressure. I think there is no pressure at Atletico Madrid because if they don’t qualify for Europe supporters will not lambast the players”
“But when you play for teams like Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid and other top clubs and you don’t perform, they will always distract you and that is why I am asking him to weigh himself well if he can really play for Arsenal” he ended.
