The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo says the government should not conceal names government officials tested positive for coronavirus. He said revealing their identity is the only way to build public confidence that the disease exists and knows no class of people.
So far, the Minister of Health Kwaku Agyemang Manu and the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) are the only top government officials unmasked by the media to have tested positive for Covid-19.
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo believes “We should be transparent in the management of information on the Covid-19 pandemic. A lot of people are skeptical and they think that the government is massaging the information…so it should be a caution to Ghanaians that if a Health Minister is tested positive any other person can also get it. So if we able to do that people will be careful.”
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said this when on behalf of the Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, John Dramani Mahama, donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies to the Begoro Government Hospital in Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
He said “the rate at which people are being infected and the rates at which people are dying in the past two weeks raise a lot of concerns that government ought to step up public education.
He said there is a correlation between increasing infection and death therefore more pragmatic efforts must be made to reduce the rate of infections.
Fanteakwa District has recorded 6 confirmed cases of coronavirus but there is no Isolation center at the Begoro Government Hospital forcing management to covert a male ward into a holding center.
