The eastern regional secretary for the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, Jeff Konadu has disclosed that defeated parliamentary candidates who try going independent, the party would use all legal means to stop them and again even if they have to physically stop them from campaigning, they won’t hesitate.
He said the party will do everything possible within their mandate to resist any defeated parliamentary candidate aspirant who intends to go independent in the region.
According to the regional secretary of the ruling party, the party had a memorandum of understanding with all aspirants before its primaries on June 20 2020 that whether win or lose an aspirant will commit fully in support of the party.
It is revealed that signing the undertaken, a defeated aspirant is barred from contesting as an independent candidate.
In a press conference by the regional secretariat, the regional secretary added that the party has had engagements with all candidates before and after the election on the issues of independent candidature as it might emanate.
Moreover, he said anyone who tries going independent has breached the contract and would use all legal means to stop them. Again even if they have to physically stop them from campaigning, they won’t hesitate.
The eastern regional minister, together with 6 other members of parliament lost the bid for another contest on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the just ended NPP parliamentary primaries.
The constituencies are as follows; Nkawkaw constituency, Akwatia, Akim Oda, Suhum, New Juaben South, Mpraeso, and Kade constituencies.
