Coach Mohammed Polo has downplayed assertions claiming that Ghanaian clubs should not be made to participate in Africa inter-club competitions due to their abysmal performance recently.
A chunk of the Ghanaian populace has advocated for the participation of Ghanaian clubs in Africa as they strongly believe that they do not make a meaningful impact of late.
But according to Polo clubs must be allowed to play in Africa consistently to able to get the needed experience in the competition.
Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF’ inter-club competitions following the truncation of the season.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association met on Tuesday to cancel the 2019/2020 football season.
The Ghana football season has been canceled as a result of the crisis presented by the Coronavirus pandemic.
However, with no promotion and demotion, Asante Kotoko and Ashgold who represented the country in the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup will represent the country again next season.
Speaking to S.K Ntim of Bryt FM, he said, “Nobody can stop Kotoko and Ashantigold from participating in Africa due to their recent bad performance. To make a meaningful impact in the competition requires consistency so why should we stop them from going”
“It is true our clubs aren’t performing of late but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t go. We had four slots but due to our low performance we’ve lost two of them so Kotoko and Ashantigold who have been selected to represent us must this time around do well to turn the fortunes”
