Communications Director for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament for Adenta, Hon. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has averred that the NPP party has borrowed more because they needed to fix the mess the previous government left behind.
According to him, when the NPP took over from the NDC in 2017, they needed to wipe out the mess the previous government left behind before leaving power and in view of this more money was needed for them to do so.
Hon. Yaw Buabeng Asamoah made this assertion during an interview with Adom TV.
“Structural weaknesses in the economy and the debt profile handed-over to us by the NDC caused us to borrow to fix the economy, we borrowed to exit IMF’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, we also borrowed to clean-up the financial sector and all these have added to the public debt.”
“We didn’t say no borrowing but responsible borrowing, when you borrow you need to invest it in productive areas of the economy so you won’t have to go and borrow again,” he explained further.” He stated
Mr Asamoah added that even though the government has borrowed a lot in their 4-year tenure, they have reinvested the money in the economy.
