Kumasi Asante Kotoko legend, Frimpong Manso has advised Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold to withdraw from Africa for the 2020/21 inter-clubs competitions.
Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold have been selected to represent the country in the upcoming Africa inter clubs competitions following the truncation of the season due to coronavirus.
Ghanaian clubs have lacked competitive fixtures since 2017 after the Ghana FA was closed down following an investigative piece on corruption in the game by renowned journalist Anas Armeyaw Anas.
Also, the 2019/20 season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Ghana FA recently wrote to both clubs to confirm their participation in the competition by September 11.
It is believed that the miners have confirmed their participation as Kotoko are yet to decide.
But according to Frimpong Manso, both clubs should decline Africa slot as he believes they will not have a good preparation for the competition.
“The quality of players alone cannot guarantee you success in Africa. You need to have a good preparation to be able to make an impact in Africa. We all know that since March we have not had sporting activities going on due to the COVID-19. This has made our teams inactive’
‘The competition is starting in November but as of now, we don’t even know if football will return this September’
‘Kotoko and Ashantigold may not be able to go through the preliminary stages because they will not get much time to prepare. They will need much time for the players to get much fitness.
Countries like, Egypt, Algeria, Tanzania and others are playing their leagues. Assuming football return at the end of the month, what better preparations can they do? He quizzed.
“Yes, they can decide to go but what impact can they make? That’s the problem.
I think they will not get much time to prepare so they should not participate in it” he told Hello FM
