Management of Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua has convened an emergency meeting over the ongoing strike action by Nurses and Midwives across the country.
The meeting expected to take place today Wednesday, September 23, 2020, was called at the behest of the Medical Director of the Hospital Dr. Akoto Ampaw.
Invited to the emergency meeting are Ward in- Charge and Nurse Unit Head in Charges, Head of Anesthesia, and Physician Assistants on the strike.
Nurses and midwives across the country commenced nationwide strike action on Monday, September 21, 2020, over poor conditions of service.
This is despite an Accra High Court on Friday granting an interlocutory injunction application by the National Labour Commission against the strike.
The Eastern Regional Hospital which is a referral hospital in the Eastern Region has almost half of its over 900 staff being Nurses and midwives abandoned posts affecting quality healthcare delivery.
The Regional Hospital records 927 average daily OPD attendance and 60 admissions.
The strike has forced Doctors in the hospital to assume multiple tasks day and night in their quest to save lives.
The Doctors say they are overstretched calling on the government to address the concerns of the Striking Nurses and Midwives as soon as possible to avert crises in healthcare.
