The Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, John Dramani Mahama has canceled his intended Campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
Mr. Mahama was expected to tour the region beginning Tuesday, October 27, 2020, but have to cancel it at the last hour to avoid possible clashes between supporters of the NDC and NPP as both President Akufo Addo and Vice President Bawumia move to the region the same week.
The while the Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has begun a three-day campaign tour of the region today Sunday, October 25, 2020, President Akufo Addo is also expected to be in the region to Commission the Kpong Generating Station Retrofit Project on Monday, October 24, 2020.
An internal memo dated October 25, 2020, intercepted by the mybrytfmonline.com and signed by the Regional Secretary Cudjoe Adukpo stated that the ” Eastern Regional Secretariat wishes to inform Constituency Executives, Parliamentary Candidates, Stakeholders, Party members and the general public of the postponement of H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s campaign tour of the Eastern Region which was originally scheduled to commence on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.
The statement however said “the postponement has become necessary due to circumstances beyond the control of the party and the Flagbearer’s office. A new date for H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s Campaign tour will be communicated very soon. The Party deeply regrets any inconvenience the postponement may have caused”.
