Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress in the Odododiodio Constituency in Greater Accra Region have said they have lost faith in the Police Service and have threatened self-defense in December General Election.
Their accusations come after a peace walk in Jamestown over the weekend turned chaotic.
Supporters of the NPP and NDC in a circulating video on social media were seen throwing bottles, hauling stones and insults at each other in the Odododiodio constituency on Sunday morning.
Speaking at a press conference, the NPP, Parliamentary aspirant, Nii Lante Bannerman laid the blame at the feet of the opposition party and MP for the area, describing him as “Violence MP” and also accused the Police of failure to investigate similar 31 cases in 2016.
Nii Lante Bannerman has they will defend themselves if the Police continue to act in the way they have been since 2016.
Meanwhile, MP for the area, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has also accused the Police of the recurring violence and alleged that they are been supervised by some men in NPP administration.
He alleged that some people in the area are not afraid of the police because whenever they cause mayhem and are been arrested, order comes from above for their release.
He explained that the move formed part of the NPP’s plans to adopt a violent approach to intimidate the opposition ahead of the December 7 election.
The Ghana Police Service has reassured that violent acts in the Odododiodio constituency shall be a thing of the past as the country approaches the December polls.
The security service stated that it has put in place measures to curb and prevent violence before, during, and after the 2020 general election.
