The Chief Executive for the Upper West Akyem District in the Eastern Region, Mr.Eugene Sackey has urged eligible voters in Ghana to make District Level Election slated for 17th December 2019 a priority and turnout massively to elect Unit Committee and Assembly members.
According to the DCE, Assembly members cannot be left out in local governance, therefore, there is the need for eligible voters to participate in the upcoming election to elect members for the electoral area across the country.
Speaking to farmers in Nyanoa in the District, Mr. Eugene Sackey commended Candidates in his District for embarking on the peaceful campaign and pledged to ensure unity and peace before, during and after the Assembly election.
He called on electorates to appoint people who can work hard in the Assembly to bring development in the entire District.
Article 42 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana says ” Every citizen of Ghana of eighteen years of age or above and sound mind has the right to vote and is entitled to be registered as a voter for public elections and referenda.”
Electoral Commission (EC) will conduct two elections consisting of District Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members Tuesday, December 17.
Across the polling stations nationwide, there will be two ballot boxes and screens and each voter will be given two different ballot papers separately.
The elections of the District Assembly Members and the Unit Committee Members form the critical core of the country’s decentralization process by way of helping to exercise political and administrative authority in the district, provide guidance, give direction to, and supervise the other administrative authorities in the district.
