Two additional Senior High schools have been established since January 2017 in the Eastern Region at Apedwa and Amoana Praso increasing the number from 89 to 91.
Already, the region has ten Technical and Vocational Training School, bringing the number of SHS and TVET in Eastern Region now to 100, second highest in the Country, after Ashanti Region.
This was revealed by the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Kwakye Daffour at the Ministry of Information during a presentation on Nation Building Update.
He said Public SHS enrolment has increased from 127,095 (2016/2017) to 175,625 in the 2019/2020 academic year (38.2% increase).
According to the Minister, Public TVET enrolment has also increased from 6,177 to 8,812 (42.6% increase) in the same period.
Mr. Kwakye Daffour said 98 out of 215 infrastructure comprising Classroom blocks, Dormitory, and Administration Blocks, Science Labs, and Dining Halls initiated to eliminate the double-track have been completed and handed over.
The Minister said Work is steadily progressing on the model SHS at Akyem Abomosu. The project is about 60% complete.
He said 133,372 and 184,464 students benefitted from the Free Text Book Programme in the 2018/19 and 2019/2020 academic years respectively.
