Koforidua Circuit Court has convicted a 32-year-old cable thief -Isaac Zaah, to 48 months imprisonment in hard labor.
The convict is the notorious cable thief arrested a few weeks ago at Nyamekrom, a suburb of New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Mybrytfmonline.com published on October 23, 2020, that, some youth in Nyamekrom had brutalized a cable thief after catching him real handed running away with stolen electrical cables from an ongoing construction site of a Rehabilitation Center in the community.
Assembly Member for Nyamekrom Electoral Area Enock Boahene told Mybrytfmonline.com that, the convict initially claimed he was part of workers on-site but upon further investigation noticed he was a thief.
He explained that the youth hired a taxi to chase the suspect who had then onboard a taxi cab escaping.
Upon sensing danger, he jumped out of the taxi and attempted to escape but was pursued and arrested.
The angry youth beat him to a pulp before finally handing him over to the Police.
He was sent to the hospital for treatment before Prosecution.
According to the Assembly Member for Nyamekrom Electoral Area, there is a high spate of robbery and burglary in the area hence the youth have vowed to take the laws into their own hands to deal with the culprits.
Koforidua residents have meanwhile declared instant justice over increasing burglary and theft cases.
Already, some residents in Koforidua have declared instant justice against suspects caught robbing in their communities.
