Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama says the best tribute Ghanaians should give to the late JJ Rawlings is to stay united as individuals and also as members of the NDC.
John Mahama made these comments during the vigil held in honour of the founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings.
According to Mahama, JJ Rawlings was not perfect neither other political leaders but having led this country for 19 years, longer than any past leader has and ever will, his impact on where the country has come from and where it is headed cannot be understated.
Mr Mahama made blooming remarks about the late Rawlings, indicating that the contributions the first president of the fourth republic made to the development of the country cannot be over-emphasized.
“Let us make JJ Rawlings’ death bring us togetherness,” he said.
He further stated that the traditions of the Anglo people should be respected and the views of their chiefs are considered in preparing for the funeral.
John Mahama, however, called on people who harbour some resentment about the late former president to use the occasion of his departure to heal.
