Many traders escaped death after a tipper truck run into shops at Awutu Beraku Market in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
The incident occurred Tuesday Morning.
The Tipper Truck with registration number GG 3251 – 19 loaded with chippings veered off the Kasoa – Winneba Highway and crashed over eight shops destroying properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.
The Tipper Truck driver and mate sustained injuries and were rushed to Awutu Beraku Health Center.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, Police, and Awutu Senya District Assembly led by the District Chief Executive for the area and the Member of Parliament visited the scene shortly after the incident.
The District Chief Executive for the Awutu Senya District Assembly Stephen Kwame Quaye said the accident is a warning signal and a wake-up call to traders selling along the roadside.
He said anytime the assembly initiated measures to drive away traders from the roadside for their safety; it takes a political twist as some people attempt to make political capital out of it.
The Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya West Constituency Neenyi George Andah told Bryt News Central Regional Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah that, the medical bills of the victims will be foot by him while awaiting assessment by NADMO to enable him to support the owners accordingly.
