Two drivers have been convicted by a court in Koforidua for driving without a license and knocking down a pedestrian.
The convicts are Apenteng Ofosuhene, 42, a spiritualist and Adamu Musah, 27.
Ofosuhene was found guilty on charges of careless driving, negligently causing harm, and driving without a license. He was sentenced to three years- four months imprisonment.
The convict knocked down a woman to death while driving a Honda Pilot with registration number ER 518-15.
The owner of the private car has also been charged.
The second driver Adamu Musah, 27, was convicted to a fine of Ghc12,000 in default serves three years jail sentence.
The Eastern Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, MTTD, Chief Superintendent Stephen Ahiatafu explained that “driver by name Apenteng Ofosuhene, 42, according to him he is a spiritualist. He was driving Honda Pilot with registration number ER 518-15 somewhere 2018 we have to forward the docket to AG’s office for advice and the advice came we were asked to charge him for court for careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm, driving without driving license Three days ago the court concluded the issue and the court sentenced Apenteng Ofosuhene who was driving that Honda Pilot on the day kill a woman on the spot”
Then we also charged the one who gave the car to him, Frimpong Tanoh, 32.
He also explained that ” Driver, Adamu Musah, 27, was involved in an accident last year -6th November 2020 in Koforidua her and he was charged with 5 counts but at the end of the day the court fined him on all the five counts totaling Ghc12,000 which he paid”.
The MTTD Commander stated that “the judge was emphatic that drivers driving on our roads without license killing people, we should not tolerate them again.”
Chief Superintendent Ahiatafu said, “of late most of the accidents that are happening in Koforidua catchment they do not have the license killing pedestrians, killing themselves and killing others”
According to him, the MTTD is to begin an operation to clampdown on drivers driving without a license in Koforidua.
