Ghana U-20 coach Karim Zito has lavished praises on the Gambia following their outstanding performance in the semifinal clash of the U-20 African Cup of Nations on Monday.
Ghana reached the final of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations as they beat Gambia 1-0 in the first semifinal game played at the Olympic Stadium on Monday.
It was a sweet victory for the Ghana U20 team as they revenged that 2-1 defeat against the same opponents in their final group game.
Precious Boah broke the deadlock with a direct free kick in the 33rd minute which subsequently earned the country the qualification.
Despite the Gambia defeat, Karim Zito has lauded their performance, saying they gave them a stiffer opposition than Cameroon in the quarterfinal.
Speaking after the game, he said, “Let me tell you and tell you again, the Gambia is a good team. Seriously is good. I think I’m even tired more than playing Cameroon”
He continued that, “We learnt our lessons and then we were able to have the opportunity and then we won so we are happy but the only sad story is we are not going to the World Cup”
“I had wanted to visit the world and see how nice and beautiful it is to play in the world cup. But both of us are proud that at least we have qualified for the world, is a history that will be laid down that 2021 there was U-20 AFCON, these countries qualified for the world but due to covid-19, it was cancelled” he said.
