The Bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, Most Reverend Joseph Afrifa Agyekum has ordained four ‘transitory’ deacons ahead of their ordination into the priesthood.
The Deacons are; Sabastian Tuffour, Daniel O.Bempong, Anthony Botwe, and Gregory Owusu from Tafo, Ofoase, Achiase, and Kade Parish respectively.
In the Catholic Church, the diaconate is the first of three ranks in ordained ministry and a priest can celebrate the Mass and all Sacraments except the Holy Order while a deacon cannot perform any of the sacraments, but they can preside over services that do not involve the celebration of the Mass.
The colorful ceremony, held in Asamankese Saint Mary Catholic church brought together Reverend Sisters, Reverend Fathers in the Eastern Region, West Akyem Municipal Chief Executive, Mr.Seth Oduro Boadu, Municipal coordinating Director, West Akyem Education Director, Mrs. Eunice Amfo Akonnor, and her Public Relations Director as well as Catholics from Tafo, Ofoase, Achiase, and Kade Parish respectively.
Most Reverend Joseph Afrifa Agyekum, speaking at the ceremony expressed his appreciation to parents who have sacrificed their children to serve the Lord and the Catholic Church and asked them to pray for the Deacons and those ordained as priests to succeed.
Bishop Afrifa Agyekum asked the congregation to be joyful in any task given to them in the Church and urged the Deacons to emulate the sacrifices of Jesus Christ and seek for the Holy Spirit empowerment and direction daily.
The Bishop charged the Deacons to go out and bear fruit that will last and serve the people with Respect, Humility and be men of good reputation and Character.
