Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong has cut sod for the construction of two projects at Akyem Oda under the 2020 Urban Development Grant (UDG), a component of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP).
The projects which were in two lots consist of the construction of 68 lockable market sheds with Ancillary facilities as lot 1 and lot 2 consisted of Precast Block Paving of the old market and construction of 600mm Diameter Concrete “U” drains. The projects are expected to be completed within nine months and six months respectively.
Addressing Nananom and the people of Akyem Oda, Hon. Seth Acheampong urged the contractors and consultants in charge of the project to discharge their duties diligently and efficiently to ensure that they meet the duration for implementation of the projects.
Having recognized the importance of market stores in the socio-economic development of the people, Hon. Acheampong assured that the government under the leadership of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was very committed to developing all the sectors of the economy including Education, Health, Roads, Small mediums, and large scale businesses, etc. and called for their cooperation and support.
He cautioned against the poor management or handling of government properties by some citizens and contractors and urged the people to own the projects by offering the necessary support to the contractor so that they deliver quality work that would benefit both current and future generations.
Hon. Seth Acheampong consequently congratulated the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive for showing leadership that had earned them been selected among 25 Municipal Assembly nationwide and 4 Municipalities in the Eastern Region to benefit from this program.
Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda thanked Nananom and the general public for the support given to him and the government led by H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the years.
He, therefore, gave assurance that he would continue to work hard together with all stakeholders to bring the needed development to the constituency.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the area Hon. Victoria Adu who could not hide her joy thanked President Nana Akufo-Addo for his commitment to the development of the Municipality. She, therefore, affirmed that the Assembly would collaborate well with all the stakeholders including the Ministry of Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development, Office of the Head of Local Government Service, and Eastern Regional Coordinating Council to ensure successful implementation of the program.
