The Ghana Education Service has constituted a committee to investigate flogging of a student at St. Stephens Senior High Technical School(STEPSS) at Akyem Asiakwa in the Eastern region.
The committee was set up under the Direction of both Regional and Municipal Education Directors after the leaked video of a teacher administering corporal punishment to a student went viral.
The Headmaster of the School, Asante Anarfi Samuel has meanwhile admitted that the, disciplinary committee of the school sanctioned punishment for the student seen in a viral video being flogged.
He however said ,the committee left the punishment to the discretion of the Senior House Master.
According to the Headmaster ,the student was found guilty in a case which he assaulted and stamped on the chest of a junior student in a boarding house resulting in his hospitalization hence recommendation for his punishment.
A leaked video published by mybrytfmonline.com captured a teacher in the school lashing a half naked student in the open.
The student wearing only short is seen in push-up position being whipped at the buttocks by the teacher identified as Sir Amable, a senior Housemaster at the full glare of other students .
The 25 seconds video captured the teacher administering 15 strokes of canes but according to sources, the lashes were about 25.
The type of punishment adopted by the Senior Housemaster has however triggered anger giving that , corporal punishment has been banned in schools by the Ghana Education Service.
Leadership of the old Students Association led by Tweneboa Kodua have met School Authorities on the matter .
Mybrytfmonline.com published similar incident which occured on October 29,2020 at WBM Senior High School at Akyem Old Tafo in Abuakwa North Municipality where two students were lashed mercilessly by the Senior House Master identified as Mr.Dagar resulting in severe injuries .
