A farmer has been arraigned before the Bibiani Circuit Court in the Western North region of Ghana for allegedly raping his 16-year-old biological daughter getting her pregnant and unlawfully aborting the baby.
The victim alleged that the accused father started having sexual intercourse with her when she was 11 years.
The accused farmer, Yaw Sarfo,33, however, pleaded not guilty when put before court on Monday.
He has been remanded into Police Custody by the Presiding Judge His Honour Joshua Caled Abaidoom till June 7, 2021.
The victim narrated to Bryt FM news correspondent Hamza Mohammed that, the accused father and her mother divorced five (5) years ago so she lives with the father alone in a village called Zogo-Krom near Awuah-Krom in the Enchi district of the Western North Region.
The victim who is a form two(2) Junior High School students said, one day while she was asleep the accused forcefully had sexual intercourse with her and warned her not to inform anyone to avoid being teased and stigmatized by her friends in school.
The victim said, the accused continued that act subsequently and had sexual intercourse with her for the past five years.
She said she got pregnant and her auntie took her to a nearby hospital to abort the baby without reporting to the Police.
The complainant in the case Mr. Kwesi Afrifa a Head teacher said, he noticed last week that the victim was troubled and did not look cheerful therefore decided to interrogate her.
He said it was through the interrogation that, the victim narrated her years of ordeal in the hands of her father.
The Head teacher quickly convened a meeting of some teachers and the Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association where the victim narrated the same in their presence.
An official complaint was lodged at the Police station which the suspect was immediately arrested.
