The driver who knocked down a pedestrian to death at Suhum Amanase in the Eastern Region has been remanded by Suhum circuit Court after reporting himself to the Police.
The suspected driver, John Amoako, 27, reported himself at the Police Station together with the accident vehicle Howo Tipper truck with registration number GN 4411-19.
The accident vehicle was impounded for testing whilst the suspect driver was immediately arraigned before the Suhum Circuit Court on Friday and was remanded into police custody to re-appear on June 3,2021.
The angry youth of Amanase, a community near Suhum along the Accra-Kumasi highway embarked on a spontaneous protest last night after a speedy and rashly driven vehicle crushed a pedestrian to death.
The accident occured at about 7:30pm. Thursday.
The angry youth burnt tyres on the road creating gridlock.
This is not the first time residents have demonstrated over continues killing of people in the community owing to drivers failure to slow down on reaching the community.
Yesterday’s incident involved an elderly man who was crossing the road when he was crushed and run over by multiple vehicles.
His body was shredded into pieces which littered the road.
It took the intervention of armed Police to disperse the angry youth amidst firing of warning shots before the road was eventually cleared for motorists.
