Taxi drivers under Ghana Private Road Transport Union in Koforidua are meeting this morning to deliberate on the new fare increment expected to take effect on Saturday, June 5, 2021.
According to the Chairman of the Taxi Drivers Union, Nana Boateng popularly known as “Cooly Cooly”, the meeting would enable the union to arrive at a uniform amount to be added to the current taxi fares in reflection of the 13% increment.
Taxi fares too many parts of Koforidua currently stand at Ghc2 and Ghc2.50p per passenger.
Road Transport Operators in the country increased commercial transport fares by thirteen percent (13%).
This is the first increase in public transport fares this year.
The new prices are expected to take effect Saturday, June 5. This means that passengers would have to pay 20 pesewas on every one cedi charge.
According to the operators, the increase is in line with the administrative arrangements on public transport fares.
In a statement, the operators noted “after long and difficult negotiations with stakeholders, a 13 percent upward adjustment in public transport fares across all category of services have been urged upon. This is to accommodate predominantly an increase in the price of fuel.”
