A 21-year-old driver in Osenase, Desmond Galley has been remanded into Police custody for assaulting and causing damage to Akwatia Police officers by the Asamankese Circuit Court.
Desmond Galley pleaded not guilty to three charges when he appeared before His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams and was remanded into Police custody to reappear on 4th October 2021.
Chief Inspector Richard Adukpo, prosecution officer told the court that the accused complainants are Inspector Richard Adu Sarkodie, General Sargent Rawlings Addo, and Detective Corporal Emmanuel Ntoso, all are officers in Akwatia District, and the accused, Desmond Galley is a driver, while his accomplice, Kwaku Galley is a building contractor, both are residents in Osenase.
He said 13th September 2021 at about 12:00pm, the complainants were in Police vehicle from Asamankese and on reaching Osenase, met the accused on the road and they were inquiring from him but in the course of it, the accused saw Inspector Adu Sarkodie and started insulting him with words such as “foolish, stupid and useless Police officer.”
The accused further went on to threaten the officer that he will teach him a lesson.
Prosecution statement said the two other police officers with Adu Sarkodie step in and arrested the accused over his threat on their colleague but the accused was angry and resisted his arrest by struggling with the police officers and later, the second accused person, Kwaku Galley came in to stop the police officers from arresting him a sibling.
During the struggle, Desmond Galley hit Corporal Emmanuel Ntoso with an object in his forehead in injured him and the accused further went on to caused damage to the police officer’s uniform but the police overpowered him and arrested him, Desmond Galley, and Kwaku Galley.
Police medical report form was issued to Corporal Emmanuel Ntoso to attend Hospital and after his treatment, further investigation was conducted and the two accused persons were charged and sent to court for prosecution.
