The Bekwai Circuit Court in Ashanti region presided by His Honour Mark Diboro has jailed a 26-year-old galamsayer, Yaw Ofosu alias Yawoolo for five years imprisonment for stealing Ghc10,000 belonging to a cocoa purchasing clerk.
According to the Prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector Ofori, the complainant is a cocoa purchasing clerk while the accused is a galamsayer.
On October 13, 2021, the convict took advantage of the complainant’s absence used his own master’s key to open his door, and made away with Ghc10, 000 leaving behind Ghc15,000 meant for purchasing cocoa.
The convict started living an extravagant lifestyle in the community, using Ghc200 notes to buy from shop owners and food vendors in the community.
The convict who became spendthrift subsequently purchased a Haojin Motorbike and clothing at the cost of Ghc13,500 from the Manso Watreso shop.
On October 17, 2021, two errand boys of the convict who became witnesses in the case were spotted riding the motorbike at Jacobu- Tunsuom.
Upon interrogation, the police officers at the checkpoint impounded the motorbike based on intelligence.
Police searched for the convicted but to no avail.
The complainant based on his investigation led police to arrest the accused person at his hideout at Manso – Watreso.
The convict admitted stealing the Ghc10,000 cash from the complainant’s room and led police to the room to demonstrate how he entered the room and stole the money after cutting the side of a black polythene bag that contained the money.
He pleaded guilty to stealing when arraigned before court hence jailed for five years.
