The Afram Plains South Constituency of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, has posthumously defended a former Constituency Youth Organizer recently killed by the Anti-Armed Robbery Squad of the Ghana Police service deployed to the area to clamp down on armed robbers.
Dickson Yaw Agyei Danso, a former national security Operative and PRO for the local Union of Cargo and tanker drivers association was killed on November 4, 2021, by the Police.
Yaw Agyei was arrested at about 11:00am by the Police but pronounced dead around 4:00pm the same day and their body was deposited at Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital Morgue.
At a joint press conference by the NPP and the family of the victim on Thursday, November 11, 2021, they both defended that the deceased was not an armed robber.
They, therefore, called on the IGP to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Kwahu Afram Plains South in Eastern Region Evans Kyei Ntiri has urged residents of Ekye Amanfrom to be calm.
The call by the DCE follows anxiety and fear that has engulfed the Community as a result of the recent killing of two residents -Akwasi Thomas alias Gambo and Dickson Yaw Agyei Danso by the Anti-Armed robbery squad deployed to the area to clamp down on the decade’s old robbery menace.
The DCE who is Chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC) and his entourage visited the Community on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, to assure the residents of their safety hence should feel free to go about their economic activities.
“Nobody should be afraid, there is full security for you so live your normal life.
Afram plains South, Ekye Amanfrom and its surrounding, Maame Krobo, and all the entire populace should be calm because the security is assured once H.E Nana Akufo Addo is the President of the country, and I’m his representative here” the DCE assured.
He however advised persons engaged in criminal activities to desist from the act since the laws will not entertain them.
“Those who indulge in robbery activities which have brought tension to this area, we will plead with them to desist. Through robbery incidents, Innocent persons have been shot”
Meanwhile, an investigation team deployed from the Police Headquarters, Accra is on grounds investigating circumstances that led to the death of the two suspects.
The Assembly Member for Ekye Amanfrom Zongo Theophilus Avor said they support the operation of the Anti-Armed Robbery Squad however wants them to use due legal processes to deal with suspects involved in the robbery menace.
