The twelve (12) boys sodomized by a barber at Atawase a suburb of Nkawkaw in Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region are being monitored by Doctors on possible Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
The first medical examination conducted on the victims came out negative, however, medical doctors say the STIs particularly HIV manifest after six months of the act.
Mpraeso Circuit Court jailed the 23-year-old barber Kwame Amponsah to a total of 114 years for sodomizing the twelve (12) School boys with ages between six to twelve years.
The convict was jailed Monday, November 15, 2021, after he pleaded guilty.
The Municipal Director of the Department of Social Welfare in Kwahu West Social Victor Fayi, said on the 5th of November 2021, officers of the department went to the field but had a tip-off that a young man in the community who is a barber was sexually abusing school children but nobody is bold enough to report him to the police.
“Officers went to the field and afterward we had a tip-off that a young man in the community has been sexually abusing the school children so since our core mandate to protect than we have to find ways and means with the help of some of the elders and assembly member of the electoral areas to arrest the young guy by name Kwame Amponsah”.
Victor Fayi said, the convict was arrested with the help of the assembly member and the youth and was handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) where he was interrogated and remanded by the court for seven days.
During the cause of the investigation, ten other victims all children came to the police station to report similar allegations against him
All 12 Victims were taken to the hospital for the medical examination for laboratory tests on sexually transmitted diseases (STI) but all tested negative.
He pleaded guilty when reappear before the court today.
“On November 2021 the suspect was taken to the Mpraeso Circuit Court and he went through the process, accepted being guilty, and was asked to serve for 114 years.
He was sentenced to ten years for each of the ten victims, additionally convicted for 7 years each for the two other victims.
On his part, the Assembly member for the area Sampson Sarfo was scandalized.
He said public awareness will be created among parents to protect their children and report such abuses as soon as detected.
