The Eastern Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Mr Dennis Yeribu has disclosed that the country is recording a higher number of road accidents as a result of defiance by drivers on road traffic regulations.
He said passengers are losing their lives due to overspeeding by drivers and indiscipline on the roads by the drivers.
Speaking with Bryt FM’s news, he averred that his outfit is fulfilling its role by visiting lorry stations to educate drivers to prevent road accidents on our roads.
He affirmed that other stakeholders are fulfilling their mandate to end unnecessary deaths but was worried some drivers have taken the laws into their hands.
Mr Dennis Yeribu indicated that many faulty cars are on the roads with no warning triangles and therefore advised commercial drivers to comply with road regulations to save lives in this Christmas festivities.
He again urged drivers to desist from alcoholism and overspeeding as Christmas is approaching.
Meanwhile, NRSA in the region has begun an exercise to arrest drivers and other road users who use unapproved and high Light Emitting Diode (LED) powered lamps on their vehicles which obstruct other oncoming motorists.
