15 houses were demolished while 58 residents were rendered homeless at Panpanso No.1, according to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
Residents of Panpanso No.1, a farming community near Teacher Mante along the Accra to Kumasi Highway in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region went on a rampage Monday 18th April 2022 around 2:00am to 5:00 am after dozens of houses in the community were illegally demolished by masked armed men.
The residents were asleep when some masked men suspected to be land guards stormed the village in the middle of the night and started pulling down buildings.
This caused the residents to agitate and went on a rampage on Accra to Kumasi Highway in a spontaneous demonstration.
The residents numbering over 200 blocked the highway with logs and stones and additionally burnt tyres creating gridlock on the road.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the police team visited the scene of the demolished buildings and found eleven (11) houses pulled down with a pay loader machine for no apparent reason leaving the dwellers homeless.
Unfortunately, the pay loader machine and most of the suspects left the scene before the arrival of the police.
Nonetheless, one Dogbe an Okoda rider aged 23 years was arrested for his alleged involvement.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said efforts were being made to arrest one Kofi Acquah alleged to be the leader of the group that demolished the buildings.
