Without any last minutes decision the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will start a roadmap towards the restoration of power begining tomorrow, Friday, August 12, 2022 with the deployment of new transformers to replace damaged ones.
The ECG said the process to restore power is likely to take some time as sources close to the negotiations between the National Security at a meeting, attended by officials of the ECG, Paramount Chiefs among other stakeholders have said that the ECG has identified as many as 12 of its transformers which have been destroyed by known persons.
The areas have been plunged into darkness since Wednesday, July 27, because Electricity Company Ghana switched off feeders supplying power to communities in the two Municipalities over illegal connections and disagreement over bills.
The company will also spend some time assessing the integrity of power lines in the area before possibly lighting the two Municipalities by the weekend.
Per the agreement, the ECG is expected to issue a statement later today, detailing the roadmap toward providing electricity to the two municipalities after two weeks of darkness.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Electricity Company Ghana, Samuel Mahama justified the disconnection of power supply to the Yilo and Manya Krobo municipalities.
Speaking in an interview with the media Mr. Mahama stated that the disconnection was in place.
“The funny thing is we walk around thinking that it is our right to electricity; it is not a right , it is a privilege,” he said.
Mr. Mahama explained that, “if I can chase people in Fadama to pay their bill by giving them prepaid, I should be able to do the same thing in Manya Krobo. If I can ask the people in Dansoman to pay bills through prepaid I should be able to do that in Yilo Krobo.”
