Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, Works and Housing minister has addressed the “Ghana Timber Trade Show”, a two-day exhibition of wood products held at the Erata Hotel in Accra, by the Kumasi Wood Cluster Association (KWC) and the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industries (GhCCI), under the theme; “Emerging wood species for housing development and construction works in Ghana”.
Recent global phenomena, including increasing costs of building materials, the COVID-19 pandemic, and more recently, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, among others, has heightened concerns for the adoption of local building materials.
According to the minister, “We simply cannot continue to wholly rely on imported building materials”.
The situation, however presents an opportunity for us to leverage on, by actively supporting local manufacturing industries, including our local wood to bridge the national housing deficit.
He stated “Thankfully, we are blessed in abundance with these natural resources, as a country”.
Hon. Asenso Boakye, therefore, entreated players in the Real Estate industry, through effective stakeholder dialogue with manufacturers of wood products, to create a mutually beneficial market.
