On behalf of Sector Minister, Deputy Lands and Natural Resources minister, George Mireku Duker paid a working visit to Newmont Ahafo South Gold Mine and Kenyasi No. 2 in the Ahafo Region.
The visit was a fact finding mission to unravel matters surrounding the recent clash between some residents of Kenyasi No. 2 (a catchment community of Newmont) and some Uniformed Police Men, which led to one(1) death and other injuries recorded.
An inspection of the residential area (MKV) of the Ahafo South Mine revealed that, lot of properties (cars, homes) were vandalized among others.
The minister used the opportunity to visit the injured victims at the hospital and their homes and also addressed the youth of Kenyasi No. 2 to distance themselves from violence-related activities.
Hon. Mirku Duker assured all parties of government’s commitment to ensure a full scale investigation and bring all perpetrators to book.
The urged authorities of Newmont and the youth of Kenyasi No. 2 to ensure that, peace prevail at all times while assuring the former of government’s conscious effort to continue providing enabling environment for the peaceful thriving of their operations.
The minister was accompanied by Hon. Anthony Mensah, DCE, Asutifi North, Mr. Benjamin Aryee, Advisor on Mines and other officials.
