Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Police administration is in an advanced stage of redemarcating Eastern regional Police Command into three police regions.
The creation of Eastern South (Kibi) and Eastern North (Mpraeso) have been seriously considered and approved.
Meanwhile, the creation of Western South (Tarkwa), Central South (Assin Fosu) Volta North (Hohoe), Ashanti South (Bekwai) and Ashanti North (Mampong) have also been considered.
These have increased the police regional commands in the country to about 25.
The move is part of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare’s broader vision of bringing policing to the doorsteps of the citizens to improve the security of the people.
Bryt FM has gathered that the Eastern Regional Police Commander DCOP Anderson Fosu-Ackah is likely to be moved to the Newly created Ashanti North Region, whilst his Deputy DCOP Twumasi Ankrah takes over as Regional commander.
