The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto paid a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional minister at the start of his two-day visit to the region.
Dr Bin Saliuh Hafiz commended the minister for his usual visits to the region to interact with stakeholders in the agric sector in the region. I indicated that the introduction of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme has enhanced crop yields in the region.
Provisional figures from the Regional Directorate of the Department of Agriculture indicate that the region’s food security is secured. It is for this reason that we must guard against the temptation to export our food stock to neighbouring countries for economic gains.
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto on his part stated that the necessary measures shall be put in place to cure the challenges faced during the last season.
Agriculture is the mainstay of the Upper West Region with over 60% of the people engaged in the sector.
