Ghana international Richard Ofori says he is not interested in personal glory, saying he is more concerned with the collective target of the team.
The Black Stars safer pair of hands could win goalkeeper of the season in the PSL following his fine form in the league.
Ofori has kept 10 clean sheets in 24 matches and is just one behind Super Sport United’s Ronwen Williams who tops the list with 11 games without conceding a goal.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper has been the rock in a resolute Maritzburg defense with just 17 goals conceded, with only Mamelodi Sundowns having given away fewer goals with 15 strikes against them.
But Ofori speaking on his performance says he is not thinking about winning goalkeeper of the season since he is more concerned about the collective target of the team than his glory.
“I don’t think about goalkeeper of the season, I just think about the team, doing well in the league. At the end of the day, we are playing for this crest, which is Maritzburg United”
“And before individual awards, the most important thing is that the team is doing well. Anything else will come later. I don’t think about the best goalkeeper; I just do my best.” He said.
“As a goalkeeper, you need to always aim for clean sheets because the possibility of your team winning a game is like 70 percent”
“I always say this league is one of the best for goalkeepers. You’ll see goalkeepers who are either second choice or first choice for his country. That lets everyone in the world know that this league has quality” he ended.
