The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, President Nana Akufo-Addo seems to have come to terms with the possibility that his New Patriotic Party (NPP) may lose the elections scheduled for December 7.
He expressed this viewpoint on Monday, November 4, at a campaign event in Biakoye, in the Oti Region, as part of his statewide journey to win over voters.
Mahama indicated that recent remarks made by President Akufo-Addo show a change in tone, suggesting that the President is getting ready to cede control to the NDC.
Touching on Akufo-Addo’s recent pledge to a peaceful transition during his speech, in which the president promised Ghanaians that he would cede power to the election winner.
Mahama sees Akufo-Addo’s offer as a tacit admission that the ruling NPP might be losing; it signifies more than just a democratic guarantee.
“The reason you must vote for the NDC is that we will go after all who have stolen from the public purse. Dr Bawumia cannot hold them accountable. That was why he said he would not hand over power to me.
“But recently, I heard him say he will hand over power to whoever wins. It is just because he knows that the NPP is about to lose the election. He knows that John Dramani Mahama is coming back to the Jubilee House”, he stated.
