Accra, January 16, 2025 – In a significant move aimed at strengthening the country’s mining sector, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Sammy Gyamfi as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
As part of his new role, Gyamfi will spearhead the creation of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key promise in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto. The GoldBod is set to play a central role in the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s vast gold resources, benefiting both the nation and its people.
This initiative will also include efforts to formalize the small-scale gold mining sector while enhancing mining support services.
Gyamfi, a seasoned lawyer and economic policy analyst, brings a wealth of expertise to the position. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Ghana School of Law and the University of Ghana, where he earned his MA in Economic Policy Management. Further sharpening his leadership abilities, he has attended executive courses at Harvard Kennedy School.
Previously, Gyamfi worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a renowned mining company in Ghana. He is also the National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress.
This new appointment aligns with the Mahama administration’s top priorities, aimed at revitalizing the gold sector and ensuring its continued contribution to the nation’s economy.
