The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman for Asuogyaman, Bright Kwabena Sikanku, has denied allegations that he submitted false academic credentials in his nomination forms for the position of District Chief Executive.
A petition, submitted on January 29, 2025, by a group within the party, accused Sikanku of falsely claiming to hold a Diploma in Purchasing, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management from the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU).
The petitioners allege that an inquiry at GCTU confirmed that Sikanku had never attended or graduated from the institution.
According to the group, Sikanku’s alleged misrepresentation constitutes falsification of academic qualifications, and they have called on the party’s leadership to take disciplinary action.
“Leadership must take this issue seriously. Academic integrity is crucial, and we are calling for investigations into the matter,” a spokesperson for the petitioners told the media.
The allegations have sparked debate within the Asuogyaman NDC, with some members demanding accountability while others believe it is an attempt to tarnish Sikanku’s reputation.
In a swift response, Bright Sikanku, the constituency chairman denied the accusations, stating that the issue was a clerical error made by an assistant who helped him fill out his nomination forms.
“I never claimed to have attended Ghana Communication Technology University. The diploma I presented was awarded in 2014 by the London International Organization for Capacity Building, an affiliate of Accra Business School. The error was unintentional and has been misinterpreted,” Sikanku said in a statement.
He further emphasized that all original certificates submitted to the party are authentic and verifiable, urging the public to disregard what he described as an attempt to defame his character.
“All the original certificates I presented are in the custody of the appointing authorities at both the regional and national levels of our party. I have confidence in the party’s verification process.”
Bright Sikanku, the constituency chairman is first of few applicants shortlisted for the position.
His competence, hard work and dedication helping the NDC to retain the Asuogyaman seat for record third term has attracted lot of support for him to become the next DCE to facilitate development in the district.
