Ten (10) persons from two families have died in two separate accidents at Nkawie in Ashanti Region and Dowenya in Greater Accra Region.
A family of six (6) died on Kumasi – Nkawie to Sefwi highways on Saturday 8th January 2022 evening.
The six (6) victims include a couple, their Mother In-law and three children in the car returning from a wedding when they met their untimely deaths.
The husband who was driving the vehicle wrongfully overtook a car ahead of him but to avoid a head-on collision veered off the road and plunged into a river. All six aboard the vehicle drowned.
The deceased wife Eunice Maame Fosua, was a Community nurse with Forifori Health Center in Afram Plains South District in the Eastern region but currently on study leave studying post-basic midwifery.
According to a close friend, “they attended the wedding of Eunice’s sister-in-law (that is her husband’s sister). They were six (6) in the car and all of them couldn’t make it. Eunice, the husband, Eunice’s mother, their child, and two other children. They were returning from the wedding and they met their untimely deaths. The husband attempted an overtaking and saw another car coming.
In an attempt to swerve they landed in a nearby river and got drowned”.
In a separate development, another family of four including a couple and their two children had earlier died in an accident on Dowenya highway.
They were on their way to Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region. They will be buried this week.
“My cousin, his wife, and 2 kids also died in a car accident at Dowenya on their way to Oda in October last year. Their burial is coming weekend” a family member said.
