Newmont has been recognized as the leader in Corporate Social Investment (CSI) in Ghana’s mining industry for the second consecutive year.
At the 10th Ghana Mining Industry Awards, held on 22nd November 2024, the Ahafo South mine was awarded Best Performer in Corporate Social Investment, and our Ahafo Processing and Services Centre (APSC) was named the CSI Project of the Year.
The APSC, part of Newmont Local Economic Diversification (LED) initiative, focuses on creating business opportunities, employment, and sustainable development in the Asutifi North Municipality.
Despite initial challenges, a reinvestment of US$4 million in December 2023, with support from the German Development Cooperation, has expanded the facility and enhanced its impact.
Today, the APSC is reducing post-harvest losses and improving food security in the Asutifi area. Over 80 farmer-based organizations and around 1,000 chilli pepper and ginger farmers are benefiting through an out-grower scheme, ensuring increased and consistent income.
