Ghana Immigration Service has issued residence and work permits to 1,166 Liberians in 2021.
The Ghana Immigration Service, through collaborative operations such as Operation Conquered Fist, Calm Life, and Motherland, arrested 17,453 persons of various nationalities and repatriated 915 to their respective countries for flouting immigration laws.
Ghana Refugee Board received 1,943 Liberian passports from Liberia and processed 1,501 to Ghana Immigration Service after which 1,166 were issued with the permit.
The Ghana Refugee Board completed 18 construction projects across refugee camps and host communities, according to the 2020 budget statement.
The Board is putting measures in place to evacuate and relocate all recognized refugees at the Budumburam Camp to the Krisan Refugee Camp.
In 2022, the Ghana Refugee Board will accelerate the process of reviewing the Ghana Refugee Law. It will intensify sensitization for Ivorian refugees on the Cessation Clause to be applied in June 2022.
The Board will continue with measures to evacuate and relocate all recognized refugees at the Budumburam Camp to the Krisan Refugee Camp.
The Board will also finalize an MoU with the National Identification Authority on the issuance of Ghana Card to refugees.
To resolve accommodation challenges of Immigration Service officers, the Service completed a 26-unit 4-Storey block of 1-Bedroom Flats at Dadieso, purchased six blocks of 2 and 3 bedroom flats consisting of 84 housing units at South Odorkor, and purchased 8No. 2-bedroom and 1No. 3-bedroom houses at Sunyani.
The Service will ensure the application and enforcement of laws relating to immigration by investigating and prosecuting breaches of Immigration laws and regulations. It will also patrol the country’s borders to ensure border security and integrity. The Service will augment its workforce by recruiting 2,000 personnel.
To provide a secured working environment and ensure territorial integrity, the Government commenced the construction of 15 Border Posts and Check Points and one residential accommodation. In addition, renovation works are ongoing on three offices and six residential accommodation blocks. Works on these projects are expected to be continued in 2022.
