A devastating road crash on Accra to Kumasi highway in Ghana has claimed the lives of 16 young members of Saviour Church of Ghana.
The crash occurred Monday July 28 in the afternoon on Atwedie stretch of the highway in Asante Akyem South municipality in Ashanti region.
The victims were returning to Obogu after attending the Church’s annual Congress its headquarters in Akyem Osiem in Eastern Region.
Some of the victims are children and siblings of three.
A Pastor of the Church in Obogu reportedly lost his two children to the accident.
Three (3) surviving victims of the accident are in critical condition but receiving treatment at the hospital.
According to an eyewitness account, a fuel tanker coming from Kumasi direction towards Accra burst one of its tyres causing the driver to lose control of the steering resulting in collision with the Ford bus aboard by the Church members.
The impact of the crash was severe, leaving 15 people dead on the spot and others critically injured.
It not yet known if the driver also passed on during the accident.
Police has commenced investigation into the crash.
