Former Ghana striker George Alhassan is backing Charles Kwabla Akonnor to succeed as coach of the national team.
The former Asante Kotoko coach was appointed in January to replace Kwasi Appiah at the expiration of his contract in December.
Akonnor recently made his debut as coach of the Black Stars in a 3-0 defeat to Mali but restored confidence after beating Asian champions Qatar 5-1.
A session of Ghanaians have raised concerns about the capabilities of the former Dreams FC gaffer since his appointment but the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations winner is optimistic he can do the job for the country.
“At the time Akonnor was coaching other clubs he was the best coach in Ghana, you matter what, he was the best. I feel it is the right way to go because he is the best” he told Angel FM.
The former Great Olympics marksman was part of the squad that won the 1982 AFCON trophy for Ghana and emerged as the goal king of the tournament in Libya.
