The Minister of Roads and Highways Kwasi Amoako Atta has said a total of 200 road projects are ongoing in the Eastern Region.
Some of these projects, according to the minister, have already been completed while many others are ongoing.
The Minister explained that Eastern Region was inundated with poor roads before President Akufo Addo assumed office but says the roads are being fixed to enable farmers in particular transport their farm produce to market centers as part of the larger plan to boost agriculture and industrialized the country.
“Eastern Region has a total road network of little over 7000 kilometers and as we speak now over 200 different road projects are going on simultaneously in Eastern Region under the leadership of H.E the President. Some have already been completed even before he declared famous 2020 as the year of roads, a lot have begun and a lot were ongoing in Eastern region and by extension throughout the Country” The Minister told a gathering at Akuse in the Eastern Region.
He added “as we speak now major road projects are going on across all 16 regions in Ghana. As we speak, I can confidently say road projects are going on everywhere in the country”
Mr. Amoako Atta said President Akufo Addo is investing heavily in critical road infrastructural projects as part of the year if road agenda.
“H.E the President is ensuring that Ghana gets four-tier interchange I am talking about Pokuase interchange which will be opened to traffic before the end of next month November. That is the first of its kind in West Africa. There is no four-tier interchange anywhere in West Africa. It is the second in the whole of Africa. The first four-tier interchange constructed in 1963 is in South Africa
“In the history of this country, for the first time under the leadership of His Excellency the President, six interchanges are going on concurrently in Ghana. It is unseen and unprecedented in the history of our country.”
The Minister cited the dualization of Tema roundabout through Ashaiman to Akosombo road and the dualization of Tema Roundabout to Afloa road as some of the major road interventions being carried out by the NPP led government.
