The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that its 2020 awards have been canceled in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
CAF decided during its Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
The president of CAF, Dr. Ahmad Ahmad at the meeting said, “I am particularly thinking about those whose families have been affected by the Corona Virus pandemic. We meet today from a distance. The last time we met was to celebrate the prestigious CAF Awards. Unfortunately, the next edition has been canceled,” he revealed.
The cancellation means Asisat Oshoala and Sadio Mane who won the Elite Men’s and Women’s Awards for 2019 earlier this year will stay on the thrown for a little longer.
The decision is one of many decisions that the highest football institution in Africa has taken this Tuesday including the postponement of the 2021 AFCON tournament to 2022 and cancelation of the 2020 Women’s competition.
