Rwanda’s female referee, Salima Mukansanga, France’s Stephanie Frappart and Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita have been selected to take charge of games in the Qatar 2020 World Cup.
Salima Mukansanga started her refereeing career in Rwanda as a teen but has grown to officiate at the Women’s World Cup in France, and the Olympics in Tokyo.
The 33-year-old Rwandan official was involved in matches at the Tokyo Olympics and the Women’s World Cup in France, the Nations Cup and now eyes the world stage as an opportunity to prove that there should be no barriers for women referees within the men’s game.
They will be supported by three female assistant referees as announced by FIFA.
