A total of 25 candidates who registered for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region dropped out of School after Registration and failed to show up for the exams.
According to Mr Wellington A. Aboagye, Exams Officer at West Akyem Municipal Education office, two other candidates died after registration and three were pregnant so they could not participate in the examination.
He said four other pregnant candidates tried to write the Exams while one candidate was also a nursing mother so she was absent and two others travelled before the examination day.
A total of 2,043 candidates registered for the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) from 73 Public and Private Schools in the West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region.
This year’s Exams started from Monday, November 15, to Friday, November 19, 2021.
Out of the number,1,010 were males and 1,033 are females, and 16 private schools took part in the exams, while public schools are 57.
According to statistics from the Education office in West Akyem, the 2021 figure increased slightly, compared to 2020 which had 1,741 candidates.
Public Relations Officer for the Municipal Education office, Mr Edward Konadu told the media that 71 Invigerators joined seven Supervisors and their deputies in seven Examination centres.
Across the country, a total number of 571, 894 candidates sat for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) at 2,158 centres nationwide.
A total of 531,707 and 517,332 candidates sat for the examination in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
