Aggrieved graduate teachers from the 2022 cohort of Colleges of Education have temporarily suspended their picketing following assurances from the Ghana Education Service (GES) that their outstanding salaries will be paid by the end of July 2025.
The teachers, who staged a protest at the GES headquarters on Monday, June 23, were demanding the payment of months of unpaid salaries and the prompt issuance of staff identification numbers.
In an interview with media on Tuesday, June 24, the group’s spokesperson, Eric Darfuor, said the GES Public Relations Officer assured them that steps are being taken to resolve their concerns.
“The PRO informed us that there’s an official communiqué from GES and that salary payments will begin by the end of July. Based on that, we’ve suspended our picketing for now,” Darfuor said.
He added that the group remains cautiously optimistic and will resume protest actions if the GES fails to honor its commitment.
“We are hopeful but alert. If nothing happens by the promised deadline, we will return—this time even stronger,” he warned.
The teachers say they will continue to closely monitor the situation as they await the fulfillment of the GES’s assurances.
