Ghana legend Mohammed Polo wants the Black Stars to change their style of play ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars continue to chase their fifth title of the Africa Cup of Nations, having gone dry for over four decades since their last triumph in 1982. They aim at breaking the jinx at next year’s tournament.
Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, has been drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique for the tournament, which runs from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Polo expressed displeasure about the Black Stars style of play under Chris Hughton and has therefore called for changes ahead of the 2023 AFCON tournament.
“We have the players but in football, it’s about team work. Inaki Williams is one of the best strikers we have in the country but he is struggling to hit grounds with the national team compared to club football and all this is an issue we have to address”
“The Black Stars need some sort of telepathy; I think there should change in our style of play ahead of the AFCON tournament. Our players need to play Ghanaian style of football when on national duty. It will be difficult for us to grind results if players stick to their style at club level”
“We have our brand as a football country so it will be prudent for the players to stick to that when on international duty” he said.
Ghana will begin their campaign on January 14, 2024, against Cape Verde, followed by matches against Egypt and Mozambique.
