Ghana legend Dan Owusu has expressed his disappointment with the Black Stars team following defeat to Cape Verde in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, citing a lack of urgency and desire to win matches.
The Black Stars succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde on Sunday night in the highly competitive clash.
Cape Verde opened the scoring after 17 minutes through Jamiro Monteiro before Alexander Djiku pulled parity for the Black Stars in the second half.
The Blue Sharks snatched a late winner through Garry Rodrigues following a comical defending on the part of the Black Stars.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the three-time Ghana Premier League goal king blamed lack of commitment on the part of the players for the Black Stars’ struggle in recent times.
“The players are not committed at all. I watched the game carefully and realized there was no urgency in their play. Again, I see a lack of consistency in the team. We’ve been changing our squad day-in-day-out which is not helping the team. We need to get a consistent team like it used to be in previous years. Truth be told, Cape Verde dominated the game in all aspects.” he said.
The Black Stars now find themselves in a challenging position in the Group following the defeat. They are currently bottom of the table without a point.
The West Africa powerhouse will face Egypt on Thursday in their second group B clash.
